ACINT riders are qualified Sonar Technicians (STG for surface or STS for submarine) in paygrades E6-E9. It is part of a highly selective, closed-loop, voluntary CNO (Chief of Naval Operations) priority program with rigorous screening, training, and qualification processes (often 18-32 months long, with high attrition rates around 50%).
From the programs start in 1962 there have only been 305 Sonar Techs that have qualified for the now NEC 708B. (formally 0416)
